Braces for adults? In the past, it was almost taboo. Putting braces on the teeth of an 18+ year old was once considered unnecessary, unpleasant, and even strange. Today, however, lots of adults are taking the plunge to straighten their teeth and improve their overbites. So how can an adult with braces survive the experience? Well, it all starts with recognizing what you are getting yourself into.

It has been said that baby boomers are more concerned about their outward appearance than any other generation. When you combine this with a healthy income from someone in their 40's or 50's...you have opportunies for middle age braces. Great article!

One of the dentists where I go for my dental work recently got braces. I'm considering it so asked her what it was like, cost, considerations, etc. I figure she's an expert in it and she researched it extensively.

She is 54 years old and got braces because her teeth were crowding and starting to chip. What she chose was the ceramic braces on top and standard metal on the bottoms. It will take her (this varies from person to person) 1 1/2 to 2 years to finish the straightening process.

She said that invisaline is good but limited so it depends on what you'll need the work for. Also, it takes longer for invisaline than regular braces.

As far as cost, she indicated it was just around $4000 for the whole thing. I live in the Bay Area (S.F. California) so take that into consideration.

She was unsure about getting them and now is totally sold as long as you get a really good orthodontist. Many insurance companies offer partial coverage. Mine is Delta Dental and it covers around $1500 per person per lifetime.

I personally found the information helpful to me and am seriously considering it.

I had assumed that the price for braces had really dropped over the years. Also, I didn't think that dnetal insurance covered getting braces particularly adult braces. Live and learn.
